Welcome! I wanted to talk about the trends I’ve noticed in salons so far this year. Not just tech trends but styling trends too. I want to touch on both because honestly some of the best ways to keep a salon up to date isn’t just with the decor we have but also with our Education. And I for one am always learning. So firstly let’s talk about hair and the different trends of 2019 I’ve seen so far.

Bobs and Lobs

These are back and big time. They create a stunning classy look without being to cliche. They have already started to take over Hollywood and I can see why, think Kaley Cuoco or Charlize Theron.

Short Hair Cuts

In general the Short Cut is all around coming back. From Celebs like Ruby Rose and Emma Watson to Fashion Icons like Margret Zhang who has done work with brands such as CHANEL, Swarovski, YEEZY, Bulgari, Gucci,Louis Vuitton, and much more.

Long Hair

On the complete other side of the spectrum I have also seen people choosing to grow their hair out. Trying to get the long flowing locks is a current goal for some. Later I’ll touch on why I think that is but for now let’s talk about Megan Markle and the Messy Bun.

The Messy Bun

Another part of this long hair trend of 2109 is trying to perfect the messy Bun. People are trying to get that perfect mix between low maintenance and cute updo. It looks like it was just thrown up but it took the wearer 15 minutes to look that good. Think Meghan Markle in all her beautiful Bun glory.

Now these hair trends are just as hard as the weather to predict. And I know 2019 has just started so its not as if we have had a lot of time to study them. But I wouldn’t be surprised if you see all of these regularly throughout the year.

Oh, and on a side note. Color is in. and not just any color but the Under color. This is one that I personally love, as you can choose any color you want while still looking professional.

Now for the Tech trends. These trends aren’t very far off from the ones we talked about in October. There are some new ones though that we didn’t touch on back then.

Wifi

Have a Wifi for customers in your Salon, make them sign in if it make you more comfortable, but have a Wifi. Along with that, it is a good ideal to have a docking station for them to plug their electronics in if need be. Even if its the outlet in the wall make it clear that, that’s why the seats are, where they are.

Booking

Give the Customer the ability to book their own appointments. This gives them the freedom to choose without the feeling of pressure on when to choose and it also opens up your front desk staffs time. Paper appointment books are a thing of the past and should be left in the past.

Spa like experience

Lastly, lets talk Spa’s. A lot of salons are bringing in the Spa like experience and offering Spa amenities to give the customer that two-in-one feel. This can be anything from hot rags on their arms or legs while they get their cut to just having separate areas for them sit in. Creating that Spa feeling makes them excited to return and keeps them as a loyal customer.
